Pilates in Cap-Ferret with precise, body-aware work around pelvic floor, glutes, and curl-up mechanics
Angela Tavernier is a Pilates practitioner and instructor based in Bordeaux, with sessions in Cap Ferret and availability in Paris and Marseille on request. A former elite swimmer with 15 years on the French national team, she trained as a Pilates instructor at Studio Gaia in Bordeaux and has been teaching for over 10 years.
I did not meet Angela in person. I came to her work through her digital studio — recorded sessions, not live. I had heard of her first through her swimming coaching, the work she did for the Monte Cristo Island swim. The Pilates came later, through the screen. What the digital format carried: her voice, the quality of the recording, the setting for the video — all of it was calm and considered. There was a sense of peace in how the sessions were presented. It made me want to continue, and it made it possible to trust the cues before verifying them in a room together. I followed them. They worked. But the in-person layer is still ahead.
Angela's Pilates opened something I had been trying to find for months through meditation and Foundation Training. The December sessions with the magic circle were the catalyst — not as a warm-up or accessory work, but as the actual thing. The adductor contractions, the outward pressure, the internal rotation squeezes: each one released something upstream. The pelvic floor connected to the diaphragm. The curl-up found new range. The hip flexors, which had been closed for as long as I can remember, began to open during the bridge. I didn't expect Pilates to be where these patterns would click into place. Angela's work made them click.
The magic circle was the centre of it. Not the springs, not the reformer — the circle. Outward pressure with the thighs, inward pressure with the adductors: each direction produced something distinct. The outward pressure unlocked a gluteus activation I had never felt consciously before. It showed up the next day, climbing five floors of stairs, without being asked for. I hadn't realised those muscles were available that way.
The meditation posture breakthrough came from the same work. For the first time I could sit straight and relaxed at once — the connection running through the pubic area, through the adductors, through the lower abs and pelvic floor into the diaphragm. One integrated chain, not a collection of adjustments. The seated forward fold at the end of the session: I could release forward without the compression at the back I always carried there.
Three sessions, December 2025. The first produced the posture shift. The second produced the gluteus discovery. The third connected the curl-up to Foundation Training: the internal rotation squeezes in FT and the magic circle adductor work are the same pattern operating in different equipment. When that landed, the curl-up went deeper — I could feel the tug of war between curling from the hip versus curling from the neck, and I found the hip version. The bridge opened in front. The hip flexors — previously completely shut down — began to release.
Foundation Training had been asking me for internal rotation engagement at the pelvis for months. Angela's magic circle made it arrive — not as a technique but as a felt reality. The same squeeze, different object, finally the same result.
